Intercessory Prayer Notice

The Intercessory Prayer Team, a component of the Church Health Team, has been focusing on prayer that the Church Health Team will be successful in its mission to do what is best for our church.  As the Fall Festival approaches, we have expanded our focus to include prayer that we might use this opportunity to witness and minister to our community and for all of those that are participating in this ministry using their time and talents. Believing that all things are possible through prayer, we encourage you to join us by including these things in your petitions before God.

HAITI EMERGENCY

The United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) is responding to the four successive catastrophic storms that tore through Haiti in less than a month. Hundreds of deaths and extensive flooding have been reported and thousands of homes and livelihoods have been destroyed. In a country with limited resources and widespread poverty, more than 650,000 people are left especially vulnerable because of the storms.

UMCOR Haiti is on the ground responding with targeted direct assistance.  In tandem with immediate relief, it is providing support to assist in rebuilding of peoples' lives, tools and materials to help repair their homes and school supplies for children to return to school.

Your generosity is needed in to help the people of Haiti gain stability and rebuild their lives following these devastating storms. If you would like to contribute to the work of our church in Haiti, make your check payable to the church and write “ Haiti” on the memo line.

 ...AND CLOSER TO HOME

UMCOR has been in contact with the Texas and Southwest Texas Annual Conferences to provide any needed storm support following Hurrican Ike.  UMCOR provides a spectrum of services following a disaster such as a hurricane depending on the conference's needs. This includes personnel support, training, and grants to fund disaster response ministry.

Additionally, United Methodist Volunteers in Mission and UMCOR are also preparing to coordinate any needed efforts following the storm. Specially-trained early response teams will be the first volunteers to go, once the area is deemed safe and secure.

Your financial gifts UMCOR's hurricane response efforts in what is becoming a very active hurricane season. If you would like to contribute, make your check payable to the church and write “Hurricanes” on the memo line.
